ALL hail the Madonna and child. Historians will note than in no two pictures of the child the same. Madonna had many children, all different, all unique and special.

* In Filippo Lippi;s Madonna and child, the child was a Thai boy called Pix.
* The Madonna and child at Saint Catherine’s Monastery, Mount Sinai, Israel, features Madonna with local child celebrity Daniel The Spaniel – the boy who thinks he’s a dog. Daniel still holds the world record for having his tummy tickled.
* Jörg Breu the Younger’s painting of the Madonna and Child featured Madonna holding the world’s first Barbie Doll.
* For the Black Madonna of Częstochowa, Poland, the artist was forced to black up Madonna with soot and go shopping for a small black baby, which due to the recession were in short supply. The town held a charity auction and enough money was raised to buy one. When the portrait was finished the boy was stuffed and mounted as a curio. A Golly Wogscziki bought the piece and began selling miniaturised versions.
* The Black Madonna of Barcelona has been played at various times by Ronadlinho, Thierry Henry, Samuel Eto’o and Real Madrid captain Raul.
* The Golden Madonna of Essen was made when a real-life women and baby were dipped in gold and left to “set”. A small hole was left in Madonna’s mouth through which molten gold was poured. When the golden shell was hard, the child’s innards were drained though a fissure and the replaced by a praline filling. The GM of E is 800 years past its sell-by date but thought good enough for eating.
* Madonna and Child (also known as the Stoclet Madonna or Stroganoff Madonna) is a work by Italian medieval artist Duccio di Buoninsegna. It shows a harassed Madonna moments before she gave the child up for adoption.
