Michael Jackson Ends Hunt For Madeleine McCann
MADELEINE McCann Watch: Anorak’s at-a-glance look at Madeleine McCann in the news – Case remains closed…
Portugal News Oneline tells readers: “Recent reports not enough to re-open Maddie case -Attorney General”
This was to be the Third Summer of Our Maddie, in which the story of the missing child would give the newspapers something to fall back on should Big Brother fail and a shark not be spotted off Bournemouth pier.
But Michael Jackson has died. Iran is broiling. Andy Murray is doing well. And as Sky News – live from LA tells us – it’s Tuesday so it must be Farrah Fawcett’s burial.
Portugal’s Attorney General has this week voiced its opinion that recent reports about British paedophile Raymond Hewlett, who was embroiled in the Madeleine McCann [sic] after it emerged the former convict had been staying in the Algarve at the time of her disappearance, were not strong enough to re-open the case.
Well, if there is no evidence…
Following reports in the UK’s press that branded 64-year-old Hewlett as ‘suspicious’ for being in the Algarve region at the time of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, Portugal’s Attorney General has said none of the reports offered solid facts that justified re-launching the investigation.
Can you have an non-solid fact, a loose fact? Such are the facts that the only things linking Raymond Hewlett to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are Clarence Mitchell’s opinions, newspaper speculation, the renaming of him as “Maddie pervert” and Cindy and Alan Thompson.
In a statement the Attorney General’s Office made clear “speculation, opinions or commentary is not enough to re-open the investigation”.
Sadly, they were for too long enough to keep the case open and for the innocent McCanns and Robert Murat to be named as arguidos. But now all things have moved on and there are no suspects to go with no evidence and no clue pointing to any crime having occurred.
It continued “when there are concrete facts, that the magistrates in charge of the case consider relevant or credible, the case will be reopened”.
Well, yes… But not in the Sun:
Forensic checks on Maddie perv’s van
“Maddie perv!”
A VAN used by Maddie McCann suspect Raymond Hewlett will be “ripped apart” in a hunt for clues.
Private detectives believe forensic checks could provide crucial evidence about the toddler’s disappearance.
What do they hope to find?
The battered blue Dodge has been seized by cops in Germany, where paedo Hewlett, 64, is being treated for cancer.
A source close to the probe added: “It will be ripped apart to look for a trace of Maddie.”
Do police hand over their suspects and potential evidence to private detectives?
Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for Maddie’s parents Gerry and Kate, 41, said: “Our investigators have known about the vehicle for some time.”
Which means… nothing.
