Lindsay Lohan Accused Of Using Twitter To Deceive Over Role In Saving 40 Indian Children
LINDSAY Lohan is in India for a BBC3 documentary on child trafficking. Earlier she told us that she had saved 40 children in a single da. Only she didn’t Well, not in person. As she said:
“Focusing on celebrities and lies is so disconcerting, when we can be changing the world one child at a time…. hope everyone can see that.”
Well, not everyone. One Indian at a time, Lindsay, starting with a “social activist and lawyer” Bhuwan, of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, a campaign group. He says the 40 children were freed from 15 workshops in New Delhi not by Lohan but by police following two months of planning by local police and magistrates. They were freed before Lohan arrived in India. Such is her power.
When she did arrive, she and the BBC3 crew visited the Ashram rehab centre where the children had been taken before being returned to their families.
Says Ruchira Gupta, an anti-trafficking campaigner:
“If celebrities do it to get publicity then they are trivialising child-trafficking.”
What says the BBC?
“Lindsay Lohan has just completed filming in India for a BBC Three project on child trafficking. We would like to stress that she did not say she was present at the raid, this is a misinterpretation. She was merely referring to a raid that happened connected to child trafficking – the subject of the programme.”
Well, no. What she said was:
“Over *40 children saved* so far…… Within one day’s work…… This is what life is about….. Doing THIS is a life worth living!!!”
Back to the Beeb:
“It is not uncommon for well known faces to be involved in current affairs programmes and often helps engage younger audiences with subjects they don’t traditionally go to such as international affairs. The final documentary will have all the hallmarks of BBC content – and will be high quality, informative and engaging.”
And feature loadsa celebs talking crap to boost ratings…
