Sahil Saeed: ‘Suspect’ Raja Saeed Arrives Home
SAHIL Saeed: Anorak’s at-a-glance look at the kidnapped Oldham child with the £100,000 ransom on his head in the news…
The Sun: “Kidnap lad’s missing dad was ‘in on plot’
Can Sahil Saeed be this year’s Shannon Matthews, the Dewsbury girl ‘kidnapped’ by her own family in a scam for cash? Mr Raja Seeed is innocent. But that Sun headline is suggestive of more:
Suspicion fell on dad Raja Saeed after he defied detectives in Pakistan – where Sahil, five, was seized – and flew home to the UK.
Sahil Saeed – A Strange Affair
So he is back in the UK. Sky News was wrong when it claimed Mr Saeed had not returned home but had remained in Pakistan. The Telegraph said he “flees” that country.
Witnesses said Raja, 31, was met and escorted away by “men in suits” when he reached passport control at Manchester airport.
No, not tracksuits. Actual suits. In Manchester. Sounds suspicious, right?
Police in Pakistan say:
“Family involvement is the key issue now. We think it is an inside job. Sahil’s father has left in haste which indicates there is something wrong. We are investigating that he might be trying to torture his wife mentally.”
But he was tortured. He claims he was tortured for six hours by the kidnappers.
Raja has denied taking Sahil away because of rows with wife Akila. Cops are also working on the theory that Sahil may have been abducted by robbers – as his relatives claimed.
The claim of kidnap is now taking second billing to the speculation.
But what about the family?
Sahil Saeed – A Strange Affair
Wajid Shamsul Hasan, Pakistan’s high commissioner to the UK, tells the BBC that Sahil’s abduction was linked to a “family dispute”.
Evening Standard: “Family rift may be behind plot to kidnap British boy”
Kiran Randhawa has news:
Sahil Saeed’s father Raja Naqqash Saeed is among the suspects after he defied detectives and left Pakistan, where his son is still missing, and flew back to the UK. His family in Oldham say they do not know where he is.
Has he been named as a suspect? If men in suits met him, has he been arrested? It’s all very vague.
The Indepedent: “Father helping UK police to find son in Pakistan”
Chief Superintendent Darren Shenton has news:
“Mr Saeed is working with us, and his wife and the family for the safe release of his son. GMP (Greater Manchester Police) has not made any arrests in relation to the Pakistani investigation.”
So, he’s not a suspect?
“Our primary concern is Sahil’s welfare and his safe return and the role of the media in reporting this matter responsibly is paramount to this objective.”
And what of the Sun’s report that Mr Saeed has “not returned to their home in Oldham, and they did not know where he was”?
As the Indy puts it:
Mr Saeed, who was holidaying with his son in Pakistan when he was snatched on Wednesday last week, has now been reunited with his wife Akila at their home in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
So, the alleged suspect is at home. Sahil Saeed is missing. And the kidnappers remain at large…
