BBC Bias Over Israeli Driver Hitting Palestinian Boys
ON the BBC you can read the story of David Be’eri, a Jewish settler in East Jerusalem, hitting Imran Mansur, 11, with his car and breaking the lad’s leg.
Is this really international news? The headline suggests much:
Palestinians boys hit by settler’s car in Jerusalem
The injured are billed as “two stone-throwing Palestinian boys”. Imran Mansur’s assocaite Iyad Gheit, 10, has glass removed from his arm.
David Be’eri says it was an accident. He was trying to escape and could not avoid them. His story is added to by the BBC:
The incident was photographed by journalists, who were in the area in case of unrest…
Journalists were watching boys stand by a road armed with stones in case a story broke?
An Udi Ragones tells the Jerusalem Post:
“His car was surrounded with tens of people with rocks, when they started throwing them, and he hit them when he tried to flee from the area.
“It seems that they were lying in wait and the ambush was planned with rocks. It may have even been a lynch situation. He felt his life was in danger.”
But the headline says:
Palestinians boys hit by settler’s car in Jerusalem
And there are four photos supplied by the BBC that show only the boys being hit and then treated by adults. We’ve seen the video. It’s here. The adults appear to be less than universally benign.
Israel and the Palestinians is an easy story. But why is it always on the BBC’s news agenda? And why do such stories need the facts skewed and presented in a leading way?
Arab sites portay the incident thus:
A video of the incident from the Al Jazeera news network shows an Israeli-plated car swerve towards the children, one of whom is thrown over the windscreen. The car then drives off.
Several children were injured yesterday in Silwan neighborhood, East Jerusalem, when David Be’eri, leader of the Israeli right-wing organization
Iran’s Press TV:
Leader of Jewish settlers in the East al-Quds (Jerusalem) neighborhood of Silwan has deliberately run over two Palestinian children and fled the scene.
