Richard Keys Is The Touchline Taliban: A Victim Of The Thought Police

by | 29th, January 2011

WHEN Richard Keys wondered if his Sky Sports colleague Jamie Redknapp had “smashed it”, we knew it would not be long until we met the object of that sniveling off-air comment. So. Here’s Louise Glass, the Sun’sshocked mum”.

The Sun is keen to add more public humiliation on Keys, whose crimes were to make comments he thought would never see the light of day.

It’s hard to find anyone willing to stick up for Keys in public, or indeed for his old mucker Andy Gray, whose antiquated views were also delivered in what he believed was a private conversation.

Before we meet Glass, the Mail’s Charles Sales types out this line in the Daily Mail, a paper that’s hardly a bastion of sexual enlightenment given its continued employment of the “unnatural” Jan Moir:

Middle East network Al Jazeera is being mooted as the most likely next destination for Gray and Keys, who worked for the burgeoning sports operation during Euro 2008. However, Al Jazeera, who are trying to distance themselves from the reputation of being al Qaeda’s preferred mouthpiece, are wary of the negative publicity signing the pair would bring.

Sky Sports hasn’t sacked two presenters – it’s routed the Touchline Taliban.

Right, then, that Louise Glass, 38, is said to be thinking of suing:

Says she:

“I was very upset by it. They were very nasty and unpleasant comments.”

Louise is married to Jimmy Glass – “a former goalkeeper for Carlisle United”:

He last night angrily confirmed they were seeking legal advice about Keys’ remarks, saying: “We are thinking about what to do next.”

Is that a confirmation they are seeking legal advice? And, if they are, what crime might have occurred? Can you be sued for having non PC values and voicing them in a private setting? Is the motto of the age: Intolerance will not be tolerated!

In the clip Keys refers to a former girlfriend of Redknapp called Louise – and repeatedly asks his colleague whether he had “smashed it”.

Sniggering Keys adds: “Mind you, that’s a stupid question – if you were anywhere near it, you definitely smashed it.

“You could have gone round there any night and found Redknapp hanging out the back of it.”

And Redknapp, a new-man figure mooted as being the new face of Sky Sports, responded how? Well, there’s no word from him yet but The Sun is from the same stable as Sky Sports, so is ideally placed to fill in the silence:

A chum recalled: “Louise and Jamie were the same age and hit it off straight away. They were together for a few months but the relationship just fizzled out. Jamie was always a perfect gentleman. I’m sure he is mortified that he was there when his ex was spoken about in such vicious terms by Keys.”

Why not role the leaked tape on a bit and let us see if Redknapp was mortified at the time?

Or maybe the tape is being kept as a bargaining chip for a time in the future when the current PC views are out of date and people are able to express private thoughts in a private setting…
