The Mysterious Death Of Christopher Shale: David Cameron’s ‘Rock’ Dead In Glastonbury Toilet
WHO or what killed Christopher Shale, chairman of West Oxfordshire Conservative Association? His body was found in a Glastonbury Festival toilet in the press area at the rear of the Pyramid Stage and the Other Stage. He was 56. David Cameron, MP for Witney in Oxfordshire, says he’s lost “a close and valued friend – a big rock in my life has suddenly been rolled away”.
Who was he?
His family home is six miles from the Camerons’ constituency cottage and a short drive from the homes of Rebekah Brooks, the chief executive of News International, Elizabeth Murdoch, a board director of News Corp, and Steve Hilton, Cameron’s director of strategy in Downing Street.
Who saw him last? ITV tells us:
Mr Shale was believed to have been staying in a Winnebago next to the Times columnist Caitlin Moran.
The writer tweeted: “Woke up to find the man in the Winnebago next to us died. Bit of a grime start to the morning.”
How did the man with powerful friends die? The media begins to speculate:
NY Daily News: Suicide?
A cause of death hasn’t officially been declared. But a spokesman for the music festival told a press conference Shale’s demise may have been self-inflicted.
“We’re told it is a suicide situation,” Michael Eavis said. “It is very, very sad.”
Financial Times: Heart failure
Police said they did not yet know the cause of death of Christopher Shale, a 56-year old businessman, although friends said there was a history of heart problems in his family.
Wales Online: Death By Tories?
Christopher Shale’s mysterious death at the Glastonbury Festival has come just hours after the senior Tory was quoted as saying there was “no reason” to join his party.
A scathing report attributed to the chairman of West Oxfordshire Conservative Association – who was found dead in a portable toilet in the backstage area of the event – was leaked to the Mail on Sunday.
The wealthy businessman, who was chief executive of Oxford Resources Ltd, a cost reduction company based in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, wrote of his party in a strategy document claiming there was “no reason to join. Lots of reasons not to”.
