Birmingham Riots: Why Did Jaroon Jahan, Shazad Ali, 30, and Abdul Musavir Die?
THREE men are dead in Birmingham. The three men were on foot when a car hit them. They were, according to early reports, protecting a mosque in Dudley Road, Winson Green, from looters. Haroon Jahan and brothers Shazad Ali and Abdul Musavir have died. They were hit by a cat just after 1am on Wednesday August 10.
The Birmingham Mail says the men’s death cannot yet be linked to the rioting.

The paper says the men were protecting shops.
David Cameron answers a leading question:
“It was a truly dreadful incident and I know that the police here in Birmingham, here in the West Midlands, are working night and day to get to the bottom of what happened and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We rely on the police to keep our communities, to keep our country, to keep our shops and homes safe.
“They need our support in doing that job.”
Witness Mohammed Shakiel claims to have witnessed the carnage:
“We got a call that there had been a car that had been set alight and a group of youths had moved further up the road. They put the fire out but there were still yobs on the street – they had no agenda other than simple stealing.”
He added that several cars then drove past the group guarding shops, and the occupants shouted abuse before one vehicle returned and mounted the pavement at “tremendous speed” and hit the men, throwing them into the air.
He adds:
“They lost their lives for other people, doing the job of the police. They weren’t standing outside a mosque, a temple, a synagogue or a church — they were standing outside shops where everybody goes. They were protecting the community.”
Tariq Jahan, Jaroon Jahan’s father, says:
“Black, White, Asian we’re all part of the same community. Why do we have to kill each other?… Step forward if you want to lose your sons, otherwise calm down and go home. I know you, you know me, we were all there together, please come forward.”
West Midlands police have made an arreest:
Detectives investigating the death of three men following a road traffic collision in Birmingham this morning (August 10) will today question a 32-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
It’s understood the three man – aged 31, 30 and 20 – were on foot in Dudley Road in the Winson Green area of the city when they were in collision with a car. All later died from their injuries in hospital.Officers arrested the man nearby and also recovered a vehicle which will be examined by forensics experts.
