Local News Story Of The Day: East European Named Ray Spikes Manchester Drink Driver’s Orange Juice
LOCAL News Story of The Day features Barbara McClean, 52, who crashed her Nissan Note in Clayton, east Manchester. She was on her way to pick up her grandson from Scouts. Test showed she had 34 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of blood. This placed her over the the legal limit of 80mgs.
At Tameside Magistrates’ Court, McClean says she is an innocent victim. She recalls meeting an East European man and a woman while out walking her dog.
McClean says the woman needed the toilet. So, McClean invited them back to her home in Bristowe Street, Clayton. At some point drinks were served. McClean had an orange juice. She claims the man spiked her soft driunk.
Says McClean:
“They were laughing at me and I thought they were joking. If I’d have known there was vodka in that drink I would never have got in that car. I haven’t had alcohol in 20 years. I’ve got one bottle of beer in my fridge that’s been there for years. I don’t touch the stuff. I was driving around the corner and I suddenly felt ill. I went into the fence and I just couldn’t believe what had happened.”
Of course, you want to know what this East European man’s was, lest you be trapped into drinking and driving? Well, it was…Ray.
Chair of the bench Stephen Guest labels the story “pure fiction”, bans McClean for 16 months, fines her £150 and orders her to pay £150 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
The East European named Ray remains at large, hidden among millions of other Bulgarians, Romanians and Russians also called Ray….
