Why Are You So Fat?
YOU are not fat because you eat too much and do too little. You are the size of Tonga because your friend eats too much and does too little:
People with obese friends or siblings are at a greater risk of becoming overweight, according to a new research which shatters the view that poor diets and sedentary lifestyles are uniquely to blame for rising obesity rates.
A study of more than 12,000 people found that when a person becomes obese, their friends are 57 per cent more likely to also put on weight.
Their brothers and sisters have a 40 per cent increased risk of becoming obese and their husband or wife a 37 per cent greater risk, researchers from Harvard Medical School and the University of California found.
advertisementThe findings, published today in the New England Journal of Medicine, could help to explain the obesity epidemic in Britain.
Until now clinicians have focused on the lifestyle of individuals and their diets when trying to account for the explosion in the number of obese people in the UK.
All it takes is one fat man to create a nation of fat men. Right? Let the cull begin…
