French Reporters Warned Off Facebook And Wikipedia
AGENCE France Presse has forbidden its reporters from using Facebook as a source for their stories.
Not because it’s an Anglo Saxon invention. Well, not just because of that. It’s in response to a fake profile on the social network of Benazir Bhutto’s son.
The Facebook site for ‘Bilawal Bhutto’ declared: “I am not a born leader. I am not a politician or a great thinker. I’m merely a student. I do the things that students do like make mistakes, eat junk food, watch Buffy [the Vampire Slayer] but most importantly of all… learn.”
Pierre Lesourd, of AFP, adds: “We have internal rules that are regularly updated [on this matter]. Wikipedia for example, we have a written rule inside the company that forbids any journalist using Wikipedia.”
Which also happens to be an Anglo-Saxon invention…
