Martin Luther King Does Barack Obama
MARTIN Luther King Jr. is not Barack Obama.
Just look at the national memorial to the civil rights leader (King) that just won approval from the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts.
The first go at a Luther statue was said to be “too confrontational”. King looked angry, and we can’t have a man speaking for an oppressed peoples looking angry.
So King was retouched and came back with a less furrowed brow, a softer mouth and more detailed rendering of the hands.
King retained his folded arms. Ed Jackson Jr., executive architect for the private foundation that is leading the effort, says those critics who says King would never have struck such a pose are wrong.
Just look at him on those magazine covers. See, same pose…
