Ashley Todd Mirror’s Anne Tyler’s Slipping-Down Life
ASHLEY Todd, she of the Obama stigmata, rings a bell:
The minute I saw that photo of the young McCain volunteer who is supposed to have had a letter “B” carved in her face by a black assailant, I thought of Anne Tyler’s early novel “A Slipping-Down Life”. It’s about a teenage girl who’s so infatuated with the leader of a local rock band that she carves his name in her forehead; unfortunately, she forgets that using a mirror to do the deed creates certain basic complications.
