Go West Luck Bronx Mowgli Wentz
OH, the simple joys the of the celebrity name. We look forward to them as we humans once used to look forward to the names of atom bombs, new sexually transmitted diseases and colonised lands.
It’s a hearty well done to the parents of young Bronx Mowgli Wentz, specifically popstar Pete Wentz and his wife Ashlee (with a double e).
Bronx is, of course a borough of New York, much like Brooklyn. And it’s easy to wander the wrong way.
Take the name Chelsea. While it is now an accepted if prissy name, suggestive of new money, puffa jackets and flower stalls, is anyone naming their child Wandsworth or Putney or Fulham, neighbouring venues in London town?
No, they are not. However if you go upmarket from Chelsea you reach Sloane Avenue. And Sloane is so very right.
So here’s Brooklyn. Do you go up to Madison, or down to Bronx?
As for Mowgli, it’s not all that bad. Monkey boy. Neither mum or dad are Indian, or of any of the darker hues. The potential for racial victimisation remains slim.
All told, the parents have fallen into the celebrity-sized elephant trap of trying something new and falling short. The child carries the name of the tryer, the wannabe.
And that is the cruellest thing of all…
