Cha-Cha For Now: Tom Holby Wins Strictly Come Dancing
THE year in review will pivot on whether or not John Sergeant should have waltzed off with the Strictly Come Dancing snow globe and night light.
Pro-celebrity ballroom is a ruthless game, and history will its judge.
The People screams for its front page: “Strictly The Final Feud.” It’s a row told in bullet points:
* “Rivals’ bitter silence before show.”
* “Screaming row behind scenes.”
A screaming silence! It’s all or nothing in frontline ballroom.
And this is the papers’ biggest problem: with the result from the show not in til after papers go to print, who do papers feature on the front pages: Tom Holby City, Rachel S Club or Lisa All Bran-Clooney?
The Sunday Express dodges the issue and noting how none of the final three agonists is blonde, opts for a free Strictly Dancing CD. Now Express readers can listen to people dancing. Wow!
The Sunday Telegraph leads with a shot of all three and the headline “The final fling”, a hint of innuendo to go with Lisa AB-C’s signature dance of a shag with Brendan, a man with a permanent suite at the Crossroads motel.
The Sunday Mirror has a shot of the People’s Dancer John Sergeant with his East European nurse Kristina, a woman whose orange skin and livid blonde hair mark her out as someone who spent many years living behind the Iron curtain. That skin colour might well be rust from Sergeant’s sweat.
In “Strictly Furious”, the Sunday Mirror yells: “Police called as Kristina is accused of trashing home of ex love.”
The Star’s “Strictly Big Bust up” features the painted faces of Lisa AB-C and Rachel S Club. And the Mail opts for Rachel in a clinch.
As it is Tom Holby City won voted the best pro-celebrity dancer of 2008. And to him the spoils of a gig as the new hips of Shake ‘n’ Vac.
And he deserves it. As the Times says of Tom Holby and his partner Camilla Blonde:
