Footballers’ weddings: a tale of two owls

by | 6th, March 2009

IF you’re a Sun or Mirror reader, you may be aware that a certain Man Utd footballer is getting married and plans to have the wedding rings delivered by a trained barn owl.

That’s right: a trained barn owl. If ever you wanted proof that money doesn’t buy you class or taste, there it is.

But which United star has made us ‘owl with laughter (sorry)?

According to The Current Bun, it’s Wes Brown:

“The Manchester United and England defender is tying the knot in a castle and has arranged for a barn owl to swoop down with the rings in a leather pouch.

The trained bird will then perch on the best man’s arm.

Brown, 29, hopes the Harry Potter-style stunt will wow guests including Old Trafford team-mates.”

But the Mirror claims it’s Rio Ferdinand:

“Ollie the barn owl will swoop down the aisle at the Manchester United star’s marriage in August, bearing the rings in a velvet pouch.

The best man will be wearing a falconer’s glove for her to perch on during the ceremony at the aptly named Peckforton Castle in Cheshire.”

So who’s got it right? We hear it’s Wes, not Rio, who’s enlisted the owl, but we wouldn’t be at all surprised if Rio does the same thing.

Either way, let the owl wars commence…
