Watership Down Rabbits Sentenced To Death, Wombles Readied
MIKE Batt, composer of The Wombles theme tune and the music for Watership Down – a tale of everyday rabbit folk – has hired a marksman to kill rabbits on his Surrey estate.
Not pet rabbits. Wild ones. With big staring eyes and massive ears.
Says Mr Batt:
“It seems that dead rabbits are the story of my life…
“There was a nice population of rabbits for many years, but a few years ago it seemed to double and double again.”
The rabbits will be shot, hopefully through the eyes – it’s what they would have wanted – and their carcasses collected by The Wombles and made into a delicious pie by Madame Cholet and their eyes hammed into the ground by the resourceful Tobermory to reflect the moon prevent accidents.
Never trust a rabbit.
