Whale Potection Boat Collides With Whale
TO highlight the dangers facing whales, a research vessel of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration – a “federal agency charged with protecting the endangered right whale” – has collided with one of its charges.
Off the Massachusetts coast, the vessel, The Auk, cut into the animal’s left tail fluke with its propeller.
The Telegraph solicits the opinion of one Regina Asmutis-Silvia, a Plymouth-based biologist with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.
Know that:
“To me, if it can happen to NOAA, it can happen to anybody.”
Has it happened to you? Anorak is listening:
“Therefore, everybody needs to up the ante and up their vigilance and take the issue much more seriously.”
Anorak is watching.
Beware of the whale.
