Perez Hilton Cannot Be Satirized
PEREZ Hilton, the celebrity blogger gone native, says the National Organization for Marriage’s video featuring his words on pneumatic Miss California Carrie Prejean is a breach of copyright.
To recap: Prejean voiced a belief in marriage being boy-girl, and in a triumph for free speech Hilton called her a bitch and threatened to mug her.
Later a British MP threatened to murder her. He claimed he was joking. Hilton was serious and screams: “Intolerance will not be tolerated!”
The video shows a three-second clip of Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, calling Miss California Carrie Prejean a “dumb bitch.” According to copyright lawyer Ben Sheffner, the video has now been removed from YouTube:
Others supporting free speech:
Instapundit, Hot Air, DrewM. at Ace, Michelle Malkin and Dan Collins.
So Hilton is a champion for equal rights and copyright laws. And this would be the same Perez Hilton who in 2006:
A Hollywood photo agency is suing snarky gossip blogger Perez Hilton aka Mario Lavandeira, for copyright infringement. The agency claims Perez used their images on his website “without permission from the agency, thereby violating federal law.”
The tabloid agency is seeking over $7.5 million dollars in damages from Perez for what they say is a loss of profits and injury to their reputation.
Hilton defends his use of this material by claiming it falls under the fair use Copyright Act; that is, according to the exception to the LA Times, the photos are altered “to achieve a satiric or humorous end.”
Perez does not want you to laugh at him. So here’s the video – which is beyond parody:
This too: A Rainbow Coalition For Anti-Gay Marriage…
Perez – let them talk. The more they talk, the less anyone needs to try to make them look ridiculous……
