Man Swallowed Alive By Melting Road
IT’S road-meltingly hot in Angleside Avenue, Burnage. And 19-year-old Graham Merrington has stepped into the molten mess.
His shin, ankle and foot are eaten.
Firefighters arrive. They cut away the road surface.
Says Merrington:
“I was in a bit of shock. You don’t expect to be walking down a road and disappear down a hole.”
Unless you’re an elephant, in which case it’s the No.1 concern.
“I was taken to hospital for checks after they managed to free me. I have badly injured my ankle, torn my ligaments. I’m really upset about it. I’m a keen footballer and now I won’t be able to run for the next six weeks.”
June and July are in the close season. Merrington may come to consider himself fortunate.
