Swine Flu Mutates Into Meningitis
WITH the panic over swine flu not as frenzied as hoped, and people still walking about and talking to one another, Anorak hears of 17-year-old Gemma Drury, from Brimington, Chesterfield, who had her meningitis misdiagnosed as swine flu.
Gemma’s father Kevin tells us:
“She fell ill and collapsed. An emergency doctor came and said it was swine flu. But Gemma just got worse and worse with terrible headaches and vomiting.
“She wanted to go into hospital but they wouldn’t take her because they kept saying it was swine flu.”
Always the swine flu…
“In the end Gemma was so desperate she called 999 and said she’d taken an overdose of paracetamol.
“They took her in, but she was told to go home after a couple of hours and go to bed. I went to pick her up.
“She was waiting outside of Accident and Emergency on her own.”
