November 1976: Phillip Garrido arrested for rape and kidnapping
A Reno policeman Tuesday found a kidnapped South Lake Tahoe woman and her alleged abductor in a Mill Street mini-warehouse.
Police arrested Phillip G. Garrido, a 25-year-old musician who lies at 1855 Market St., Reno, for investigation of kidnapping, rape and infamous crime against nature.
His bail is $30,000. The FBI also is investigating because the crime crossed the California-Nevada border.
Detectives said the victim, a 25-year-old South Lake Tahoe casino worker, reported she was forced into a car in a market parking lot.
