High Court Issues First Injunction Via Twitter, Steals Supreme Court Limelight
DAY one of the Supreme Court and Britain’s High Court kick starts its PR offensive by announcing its first injunction via Twitter.
Solicitors Griffin Law sought the injunction against www.twitter.com/blaneysblarney arguing it was impersonating right-wing blogger Donal Blaney, the owner of Griffin Law.
Says Dr Konstantinos Komaitis of Strathclyde University’s law faculty.
“The law tends to be quite cumbersome and slow, so to have a court deliberate on something like Twitter – so hot, so relevant – it shows quite impressive engagement.”
Who says the High Court is irrelevant? You sir, in 140 characters or fewer…
Andre Walker at Griffin Law says the anonymous Tweeter will receive a message from the High Court the next time they open their online account.
Listen out for that beep in chambers, chaps.
