School Bans Freak Dancing And The Maypole

by | 18th, February 2010

circlemaypoleTHE Brighton High School dance is forbidden. Officials at the North Carolina institution will not endure students “freaking” on the dance floor.

Freaking means sexually suggestive dancing, in the manner of the Tango, the Frot Trot, the Lambada, the Salsa, most ballets, cheerleading and the disgusting Maypole.

“If you open the door for that, what else comes after?” said Lois Lenaghan, whose grandchild attends the high school. “It’s like opening a can of worms.”

The dance floor might be the one place an older teenager can’t have sex. But know that grandma matters:

But at Minnetonka High School in Minnesota, the principal initiated a campaign entitled “Dance Like Grandma’s Watchin’” in hopes of discouraging provocative forms of dancing among the students. The idea, principal David Adney told msnbc.com, is that even though teens may be unconcerned about annoying their parents, they do care about what a grandmother…The Brighton school asked all potential dancers to sign a contract beforehand. Principal Ken Hamman says a whopping 67 students signed the contract. Out of 1500 pupils he, reportedly, expected to sign.

Hard to believe that as many as 67 pupils signed a document to say that they would not freak out the dance floor and that the headmaster expected everyone to agree to his terms? What odds that these signatories were the less nubile students? And what punishment for freaking out and being in breach of the contract – removal of drugs, knives and drink?

Hamman is undeterred and says he is working with the student government to come up with a new document for the prom.
