Refuge From Islam: A Fatwa On Miami Buses
ASKS the anti-Muslim advert on the side of the bus in Miami:
“Is your family or your community threatening you?”
It’s the work of Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller. It’s designed to do one thing: annoy Muslims, right? Geller prefers to look on it as:
Our pro-freedom campaign rolled out today on the following buses all over Miami…
Pro-freedom? Well, it is freedom of speech at work. But it is not freedom. It’s more akin to the negative freedom, wherein one person enjoys not freedom to but freedom from. You are free so long as you do as they say. Also the conceit that non-Muslims are best placed to save Muslims is antagonistic and ignorant.
Spencer says:
One of the first projects that we’ve been working on for Stop the Islamization of America and the Freedom Defense Initiative organization that I started with Pamela Geller was this bus ad campaign… This is the first time anyone has offered public help to those who are threatened under Islam’s apostasy law. In the Land of the Free, government and law enforcement should be on this. But they aren’t. So we are. It is time for free citizens to stand for freedom — or lose it.
It sounds like it’s time to spread fear in anyone thinking of becoming a Muslim.
We wanted to show that some people will stand up against violent intimidation, some people will stand up for religious freedom in America.
The “Refuge from Islam” (via) website ioffer not much. This is Islamophobia at work?
