by | 27th, April 2010

MAX the boxer dog bring us X-Ray of the Day. Max has been hit in the head with a nail fired from a nail gun by his owner, Tim Horvat.

Mr Horvat is firing nails into his garden decking. And into Max, who has lunged for the gun. Says Mr Horvat:

“At first I thought I had missed him because he ran behind me. But then I saw the tip just protruding from his head and I started shaking as I realised what had happened.”

To the Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre. Says Dr Kudnig:

“I was amazed he was still conscious and alert and I kept thinking it must not have gone into his brain cavity. You can’t just grab the nail and pull it out. Craniectomies to remove part of the skull are not uncommon to remove brain tumors, but it was a first to remove a nail.”

Max is ok now.

Says Mr Horvat: “I love him to death.”

THIS is a picture of a two-inch long live round of ammunition lodged in the head of living Afghan soldier. The US Air Force image stems from work by Radiologist Lt Col Anthony Terreri. He explained the patient and discovered that the shrapnel was in fact a 14.5mm unexploded round. Says he: “I saw that it was not solid metal on the inside. I then looked at the scout image and could see there was an air gap on one end and what looked almost like the tip of a tube of lipstick at the end and decided this didn’t look quite right.” Wearing body
