Madeleine McCann: Is Charles O’Neill The New ‘Maddie Paedo’?

by | 11th, June 2010

MADDIE WATCH – Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann: RAYMOND Hewlett is dead. The “Maddie paedo” – as the tabloids called him – is dead. None of these men have been found. Introducing Charles O’Neill.

A SERIAL paedophile linked to the Madeleine McCann case was yesterday jailed for life for murder.

Linked how?

Charles O’Neill has repeatedly refused to be quizzed by detectives working for Maddie’s parents Kate and Gerry.

Is he a suspect because he does not want to meet with private detectives? And if he is, have the Portuguese police spoken with him? Is he now media “Maddie paedo”?

O’Neill, 47, is believed to have been in Portugal when Maddie, then three, vanished…

At least we know where to find him now:

Yesterday he was sentenced for killing mum-of-three Allison McGarrigle who threatened to reveal he and gay lover William Lauchlan were abusing a child.

He killed her 13 years ago. No body has been found.

The single mum was chilled when she saw the smiling faces of the men who had befriended her and her six-year-old son under the heading “Beasts On The Loose”.

She had known them as a kind-hearted pair who took her and her son on days out and who she trusted enough to allow them to babysit him.

And:

Lauchlan and O’Neill were also sentenced to 10 years each for abusing two boys aged six and 14.

What else linking them to Our Maddie?

In April 2004 they abducted, drugged and abused a 15-year-old English boy in Spain.

Fact.

O’Neill was still there three years later when seven-year-old Spanish Jeremy Vargus vanished from Gran Canaria.

So..?

Two months later Maddie went missing – and O’Neill was thought to be on the Algarve at the time.

What facts? Says Clarence Mitchell:

“Investigators have been fully aware of O’Neill and his background but have not been able to take him any further forward as an active line of investigation.”

Because…? No evidence?
