Kyron Horman: The Public Conviction Of Terri Horman And Reckless Endangerment
KYRON Horman is missing. Anorak’s at-a-glance look at the search for the missing seven-year-old in the news: Terri Moulton Horman, Kyron’s step-mother, was the last person known to have seen the child alive. She has taken two polygraph tests. She is not an offical suspect. Police have nothing on her. The media, however, thinks it might…
Meanwhile, in the Horman home:
A threat related 9-1-1 call was made from the home of missing Portland boy Kyron Horman Saturday night, two days before the father filed for divorce and obtained a restraining order against his wife.
Later:
A judge has forbidden the step-mother of a missing 7-year-old Portland boy to have access to her children or firearms.
The whispering campaign gets louder:
But a friend from high school who helped organize a vigil for Kyron earlier this month said he has spoken with him. Michael Cook declined to say how Horman was doing.
“It’s sad,” he said about the latest development in the case. “It’s very sad. I’m just a friend. I hope Kyron comes home.”
Cook urged the public not to convict anyone. “I’m not jumping to any conclusions or passing any sort of judgment,” he said. “I don’t know what happened to Kyron and I won’t presume that someone is responsible because of how things might appear.”
Can the public convict you?
People magazine does the maths: 1 plus 1 equals:
Though Kyron’s father, Kaine Horman, initially stood by Terri, he has since moved out of the couple’s home and filed for divorce.
So. He’s not standing by Terri because..? She has not been arrested. She is not an official suspect. She is in the glare of the media:
Her father, Larry Moulton, who recalls Horman making homemade costumes for her children on Halloween, tells PEOPLE: “She’s really good with kids.”
Terri has not spoken publicly about the incident, but those closest to her say the entire ordeal has taken a huge toll.
“She sends me text messages at random and says, ‘I miss my son; I want my son back.’ It’s heartbreaking to talk to her,’ ” friend Jennifer Jones tells PEOPLE.
You want facts? Whisper. Whisper. The police seem to be using the media to crack the case:
In this type of case, the fracturing of the family is unusual, said Jack Levin, a criminology professor and co-director of Northeastern University’s Brudnick Center on Violence and Conflict.
“In most cases of abduction or murder, the family members stick together. Even when all of the evidence points to one of them, they still believe in the innocence of the family member,” Levin said. “So, when you see the kind of reaction that this family had, you have to wonder whether there might not be some validity in their perception.”
How about this piece of armchair detective work:
In looking at Terri’s eyes, they seem to dart hither and thither, and at times she is pensive, deep in thought, as if she’s projecting herself in specific scenarios of the past, such as the morning hours of June 4th, the day of the seemingly joyous science fair.
She’s got form:
A records search of Terri Horman under her current, maiden and previous married names turned up a DUI conviction in 2005 in which she pleaded guilty not only to driving under the influence, but also to “reckless endangerment of another.”
Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings told ABCNews.com that the endangerment charge stemmed from the fact that her son, who was 11 at the time, was in the vehicle when she was stopped.
Dink-driving and a missing child. Make the link, readers. Whisper. Whisper. Send the woman down!
At this point in the investigation, I think suspicions about stepmom Terri Horman are more than warranted as the evidence is stacking up in the court of opinion.
A boy is missing and all we have is opinion. Ther is no word on the search for the child. We are just watching the parents. Police seem short of ideas.
So what happened to Kyron Horman? A reader writes:
I do not know if there was a sign outside of his school announcing this science fair or not, but here in Chester that seems to be the norm. I have written letters in the past to various people, including the schools, regarding the signs out by the roads in front of the schools. These signs announce ahead of time the children’s activities, including skate nights, dances, field days and various events with dates, times and places. These signs in no way, shape or form protect or benefit our children! They are an invitation for predators!
