Raoul Moat Is The Half-French, Totally Mad Triple Killer: Pictures

by | 5th, July 2010

RAOUL Moat is the subject of tautological news, as the Sun’s “maniac” and “steroid-taking fiend”, the Mirror’scraze gun killer”, and the Express’s “maniac killer” occupies the front pages. His mum is French. Moat has shot three people. He name needs no adjectives.

The Sydney Morning Herald can barely contain its excitement at the blood and death and says Moat is the “triple killer”. No nickname for Moat yet, but the tabloids are working on it.

Will more be killed?

* Kelly Stobbart, 27, Samantha’s half sister, said she was concerned Moat would commit “suicide by cop”. She said: “He’s a coward. He’s definitely not going to give himself up. We are all terrified that he’s coming after us.”

Any more?

The manhunt has echoes of last month’s shootings in West Cumbria, with a gunman at large and a major police operation to find him. But detectives were keen to play down any similarities, saying that, unlike Derrick Bird’s murderous spree, in which 13 people died, these were targeted shootings motivated by domestic and relationship issues. “It is not a random attack on members of the public,” Adamson said.

Moat has, allegedly, shot traffic officer PC David Rathband, 42, a married father of two. Moat has shot dead Chris Brown, described in the Sun as 29-year-old karate expert. Brown was seeing Moat’s ex-girlfriend and the mother to his daughter Chanel, one Sam Stobbart. To keep Moat away, a source says Stobbart told Moat that Brown was a policeman.

If that was the plan, it did not work. Moat arrived at her parent’s home in Northumbria, shot her and “executed” Brown with shotgun.

Again the tabloids go for the drama when the actions are enough. Brown was carrying a metal pipe when he was shot. He had, apparently, seen Stobbart shot and rushed from the house to confront Moat. He was then killed. But was he executed, as the Sun says?

Perhaps the Sun is helping the police, who want to big Mr Moat up. And it is, Mr Moat. Says Detective Chief Superintendent Neil Adamson of Northumbria police:

“You believe that Sam was having an affair with a Northumbria police officer ‚ Sam has told us this was not true. Our inquiries have verified this to be not true.

“Mr Moat, yesterday when you contacted the police it was clear you believe certain things to be true. You have told us police that we are not taking you seriously; I can assure you we are. I want you to know you have our full attention.”

And Moat is violent. Really:

* Agnes Hornsby, Miss Stobbart’s grandmother, told how her granddaughter would come and stay with her in Gateshead when Moat’s violence became too much.

“He’s got a violent temper,” she said. Once he loses his temper he lashes out, of course she was always the nearest one and then she used to come here. He split her head open one night. From what she told me he threw her against a wall and jumped on her stomach. He always said if he couldn’t have her then nobody else could.”

But he is in control of his temper, or not:

In August 2003, he was accused of threatening council staff after his then two-year-old daughter, Chantelle, fell out of an unsecured window at home.

Interviewed in his local paper, he said: “She is very strong for her age. I’m a nightclub bouncer, so maybe she gets it from me, but she sure gets her strength from somewhere.”
After the accident, the council fitted locks on the property, but he denied being aggressive to council workers.

“In my line of work you lose your job if you’re abusive or lash out, so you learn how to control your temper,” he said.

Others are talking:

Miss Stobbart’s half-sister, Kelly Stobbart, said Moat was obsessed with his image. She said the ex-nightclub doorman had a jealous personality which led to frequent rows with his former partner.

“He always said that if he couldn’t have her, no one else would,” she said.

Miss Stobbart’s grandmother said Moat had previously threatened them with a firearm.

Agnes Hornsby, 69, said: “He threatened us with a gun – all because she’d put on her Facebook that she was going out with a friend.
“He was there for about two hours and she was on the phone to him trying to calm him down.”

What says Moat on Facebook?

* He wrote: “I’ve lost everything, my business, my property and to top it all off, my lass of six years has gone off with someone else.

“I’m not 21 and I can’t rebuild my life. Watch and see what happens.” Moat also allegedly updated his status since going on the run, taunting the police by writing “Ha, ha! You can come but you can’t catch me!”

A story builds…
