IN Photos: Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the UK is the first papal visit to these lands for 28 years. This is a place the German Pope’s aide Cardinal Walter Kasper called a “Third World Country”. It’s all about making friends and building bridges, people. The photos look at his meeting with the Queen at Holyrood House. This is the Pope’s state visit, the first one ever. Also photographed are: the open-air Mass in Glasgow; the Pope offering victims of paedophile priests “material, psychological and spiritual”; protestors against the Vatican’s stance on birth control, gay rights and abortion; pleased Catholics vying to meet the man; and others bemoaning the £10m to £12m cost to the taxpayer…
