Segway Owner Jimi Heselden RIP: His Company Scooter Drives Off Cliff
JIMI Heselden RIP: you were the leading light of the Segway who’s died after riding one of your company’s motorised scooters off cliffs at your Thorp Arch, Boston Spa, West Yorkshire, estate and plunging into the River Wharfe.
Mr Heselden, 62, a philanthropist, had a £166m fortune, largely based on his company Hesco Bastion developing the “blast wall” basket used by servicemen in Afghanistan. The HESCO Concertainer…
“…is used extensively in the protection of personnel, vehicles, equipment and facilities from the effects of weapons. Structures built from HESCO Concertainer® provide protection by enhancing the mass and characteristics of the fill material, and have been subjected to testing with charges up to 20,000lbs.”
A defence supplier and tragic, untimely death…
A statement by Hesco Bastion said Mr Heselden died in a “tragic accident” on an X2 scooter.
Police do no suspect foul play. Say the police:
“Police were called at 11.40am yesterday to reports of a man in the River Wharfe, apparently having fallen from the cliffs above. A Segway-style vehicle was recovered. He was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time we do not believe the death to be suspicious.”
Mr Heselden was 62. He bought Segway Inc. He gave £23m to charity.
