Joanna Yeates: The White Company Button, Liz Jones And Nathan Tomlinson
JOANNA YEATES: For the first time this year the murdered Bristol woman does not feature on the front page of the Daily Mirror. Colin Firth, Katie Price and Wayne Rooney take the cover.
But there is still some news. Laurie Hanna notes that the events as best known are to be filmed for the BBC’s Crimewatch.
As fact got that’s about as good as it gets because Hanna then delivers:
Yesterday top criminal profiler Professor David Canter suggested the killer may be a police officer. Prof Canter, whose crime-busting skills inspired TV’s Cracker, said: “It implies they’ve got some sort of experience with the investigative process.”
Liz Jones has more news in the Mail. She’s live from the Bristol Ram pub:
“I wish she had spent what were probably her last hours on earth somewhere lovelier. The food is awful (I ask for a veggie burger and it comes without the burger – and without the bun!) but the young women behind the bar are sweet with huge, wary eyes.”
Before being murdered, why not splash out at Le Gavroche? It’s not like you’re going to need your savings. But let’s go over the facts about the de\d woman with the “lovely face”:
Leaving Jo’s flat, I return to my car. My satnav takes me to the Clifton Suspension Bridge. The theory is the killer took the long route from the flat to where he dumped the body to avoid the CCTV cameras. Perhaps he also wanted to avoid the 50p toll. I don’t have 50p and try tossing 30p and a White Company button into the bucket. It doesn’t work.
In other news, the Independent looks at some other missing persons, none of whom is blonde:
When Joanna Yeates disappeared from her Bristol home on 17 December, her parents suffered the anguish of not knowing what had happened to her, but fearing the worst. This explains why they described the news of the discovery of Ms Yeates’s body eight days later as “a relief”.
For the families of Nathan Tomlinson, Ciara Richards and Natalie Bailey, there is no such “relief”. All three went missing on or around the date that Ms Yeates disappeared, exactly one month ago today. But, unlike Ms Yeates, their cases have attracted little or no publicity, and what has happened to them is still unknown.
Back in the Mail and Joanna Yeates may no longer be blonde enough to capture readers’ attention on her own:
Detectives hunting the murderer of Joanna Yeates have enlisted the help of the forensic laboratory which helped catch Rachel Nickell’s killer.
Joanna Yeates has been murdered. And the voracious news media is picking over her remains…
