Pregnant Nikitta Grender’s Murder Is A Local Statistic: Amanda Holden’s Baby Is A Tragedy
NIKITTA Grender is the eight months pregnant 19-year-old who was stabbed to death and then burnt in a house fire.
Will the murder of a teenage mum and her unborn baby in a rented flat in Wales feature high on the mainstream news agenda?
No. But there is a story of female “tragedy” on the front pages:
Showbiz stars offer support for “devastated” Amanda after baby tragedy – Daily Express
“Showbiz pals rally for tragic Amanda” – Daily Star
“TV stars comfort Amanda” – Sun
The BBC’s Sian Williams calls it “desperately sad news”.
The Mail turns the death of an unborn baby into a mystery on its front page:
“Amanda baby tragedy baffles doctors”
Nikitta Grender was not blonde like Joanna Yeates, nor famous like Amanda Holden.
Miss Gredner was a teenager. She was neither a doctor nor an architect. She wanted to be a model. She died in unfashionable Broadmead Park, Liswerry, Newport.
The press have already decided that she is not newsworthy. But one element of a callous murder may make her story gel with the editors: her pet dog, a pug cross, also died in the fire.
In the league table of news that sells, pet killers come just below celebrities and blondes…
