THE Laurence Olivier Awards 2011 reward actors who can drill a tooth with Nazi menace, pine for Cathy or sing a Jewish psalm. It’s a night of theatre awards.
It’s also a chance to see Amanda Holden, the star of Shrek: The Musical. If that doesn’t sound like the kind of live theatre that explains we love the telly, know that it also stars Richard Blackwood (Donkey), Nigel Lindsay (Shrek) and EastEnders’ leading brown jumper wearer Nigel Harman (Lord Farquaad).
Also there: Kara Tointon, Rupert Everett, Gary and Danielle Lineker and the excellent Sheridan Smith (surely a future Young M to Benedict Cumberbatch’s James Bond). Live theatre’s about the craft, darling, but the real actions in the movies…
