RAF Bomber command Veterans (left to right) John L Cox, Gordon Mellor, Alf Hubrerman, Michael Beethham, Doug Radcille and Bill McFadden, met at the ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone for the Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park, London.

Also there was Robin Gibb, who never as one of The Few, but who does know about mining disasters and Saturday Night Fever, and proves that everything needs a celebrity to make it newsworthy…

British fighter pilots waiting for the 'scramble' signal to ring, which will send them up in their aircraft to fight the German Luftwaffe. The RAF have so far denied air superiority to the Luftwaffe, and without that, there can be no invasion of England by sea.
