Princess Diana’s Unlawful Killing Appeals To The Usual Suspects

by | 9th, May 2011

THE Princess Diana conspiracy film is called Unlawful Killing. It’s created by Keith Allen, dad to Lily Allen, and funded by Mohamed Al Fayed, father to Dodi Fayed.

If the trailer is a fair reflection of the whole, the film is big on sideways eyes and making one plus one equals whatever you want it to. Allen says:

Unlawful Killing is not about a conspiracy before the crash, but a provable conspiracy after the crash.

He, however, does make one point well:

Why is the film being premiered next week at Cannes, three years after the inquest ended? Because British lawyers insisted on 87 cuts before any UK release could be contemplated. So rather than butcher the film, or risk legal action, we’re showing it in France, then the US, and everywhere except the UK. Pity, because at a time when the mindless sugar rush of the royal wedding has been sending British Rrepublicans into a diabetic coma, it could act as a welcome antidote.

Well, yes. But rubbishing the Royals, linking the story to Republicanism, having the film paid for by a man who has already made his mind up that his son was bumped off and appealing to they who already think Diana was murdered, does rather limit your audience. It might be better to show it in France, where the locals murdered their royals years ago…

PS: had only she worn a seatbelt.
