Tony Blair’s Dream Of A European President Is Against Democracy
THE front page of the Times announces “Europe Needs A Leader“. This statment is illustrated by a photo of Tony Blair with his arms outstretched.
“Europe needs an elected president with a democratic mandate to drive sweeping reforms and give the European Union leadership on the world stage”
He wants a federal superstate. He thinks that another layer of representation – above that of the European Council; above that of the Commons; above that of your MP; above that of your local council- is democratic?! Does he have any grasp on what democracy is?
The popular consent enjoyed by a directly elected president of Europe — chosen by an electorate of more than 386 million from 27 countries — would give the EU clear leadership and enormous authority on the world stage, Mr Blair says….
Why now, Tony. Why now?
“I put this on the agenda,” says Mr Blair in the interview to mark the publication of the paperback version of his autobiography. “The rationale for Europe today is about power, not peace.”
Buy the book – the cash should encourage him to stay out of politics…
