Wing Commander Guy Gibson, DFC and bar, aged 24, who led the wing of a Lancaster bomber raid in a daylight attack on Milan, giving an interview to reporters. Seven months later Gibson led the Dambusters raid, using 'bouncing bombs' to destroy the Moehne and Eder Dams in the Ruhr and Eder Valleys of Germany.
