Wimbledon: Bethanie Mattek-Sands Is The Neon Balls Magnet

IN an effort to extend the two-week long tennis season beyond Wimbledon, there is something called the WTA Pre Wimbledon Party. It was held at the Kensington Roof Gardens. Serena Williams was there as the recognisable sporty face of female tennis. But the battle for women’s tennis is not about the skills – it’s about the glamour.

You either yet hard working, talented East Europeans and the grunting, forcible Williams sister, or fanciable also-rans. And then there is 26-year-old tennis player Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who appeared dressed as a neon tennis ball magnet. Is this the future of women’s tennis: the Lady Gaga theme?…
