Kate Middleton Refuses To Apologise For Her Wimbledon Letter Errors (In Full)
KATE Middleton’s letter to Wimbledon is the Daily Mail’s most popular story. News is that the woman known as the Duchess of Cambridge is a rotten speller. Says the Mail of a letter Kate wrote to the All England club three years ago:
“In the letter, just unveiled in Wimbledon’s museum, she writes quite instead of quiet and confuses ’till with ’til.”
To put the tin lid on news that Kate is every bit as dim as Princess Diana woz, we are told:
Kate, whose brother James suffers from dyslexia, is a former pupil at Marlborough College, where current boarding fees are £29,000 a year, and went on to study at St Andrews University.
Are we to suppose that James writes his sister’s letters? And we we also to believe that the Daily Mail’s educated types are evidence of money well spent, they having invented a new Australian State and remembered their manners when apologising about entire letters, or reports as they are known in the trade, based on error:
APOLOGY of May 20: Sorry, you’re not a baby killer:
Statements contained in an article published on 7 March, headed “Babies who are born at 23 weeks should be left to die, says NHS chief”, were wrongly attributed to Dr Daphne Austin, who is a medical consultant specialist employed by the NHS. They were made in a programme in which Dr Austin participated and were published by us in good faith. In particular, Dr Austin did not state that babies should be “left to die” and did not express the opinion that the financial aspects of neonatal care were the issue. We apologise to Dr Austin for the errors.
APOLOGY of 3 May 2011 – Sorry, your husband’s not dead:
A report carried online on 25 March (Fisherman husband of Tory MP drowns after becoming tangled up in his own net) stated that it was believed that Neil Murray, husband of East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray, had drowned after falling overboard. We now understand that this was incorrect, and that Mr Murray was found on board his vessel. We are sorry for the error.
APOLOGY of 22 May 2011 – Sorry, you never got that much:
On May 15 we said Tim Henman was being paid £200,000 by the BBC for commentating at Wimbledon this year. In fact we have been informed that his fee will be substantially less than that. We apologise for the mistake and are happy to set the record straight.
APOLOGY of 26 January 2011 – You’re not a wrong un:
In our article of 30 March 2009, Doctor ‘abused abortion patients’, we reported allegations of sexual assault by Dr Sharma during a criminal trial, but did not report on the outcome. Dr Sharma was found not guilty of all charges and the trial judge stated that he could ‘leave the Court without a stain on [his] character’. We are happy to set the record straight and apologise to Dr Sharma for the distress and embarrassment caused.”
APOLOGY of 31 March 2011 – Sorry, you never made it to Italy (via tabloid watch):
Robert Marshall-Andrews and his daughter Laura
A report with the heading ‘Former Labour MP’s daughter held by Italian police for being drunk told officers ‘she was the daughter of Cabinet minister’’ incorrectly identified Kathryn Emily Andrews as the daughter of former Labour MP Robert Marshall-Andrews.
In fact, neither Mr Marshall-Andrews nor his daughter Laura were in any way connected to the incident.
We apologise to them for the misunderstanding and any embarrassment caused.
APOLOGY of November 2010 – She’s alive!:
An article about lifestyle expert Carole Caplin published on September 18 erroneously referred to her mother as the late Sylvia Caplin.
We are happy to report that Sylvia Caplin is alive, well and continuing to work. Our apologies for these errors and the distress caused.
Now back to Middleton’s errors. Isn’t “till” ok? And we know good spelling – this, after all, is the Anroak (sic)…
NOTE: Paul Dacre, the Mail’s editor, was educated at UCS, in Hampstead, London. Fees: £16,005 a year (day only).
