On June 1, 1975, President Gerald Ford made his own mark on the top job by slipping as he disembarked from Air Force One in Salzburg, Austria. His wife was Betty Ford. She never flinched. But she suffered. She had cancer. Her mastectomy made a taboo subject a talking point. She spoke out on abortion and drugs. Her drugs addiction led to the creation of the Betty Ford Clinic.
