Julia Roberts And Christy Turlington L’Oreal Ads Banned For Lying

by | 27th, July 2011

THOSE images of Julia Roberts and Christy Turlington modelling stuff for L’Oreal have been banned. The Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson says the ads adverts were “not representative of the results the products could achieve”.

How the MP knows this is not said. But we are inclined to agree that applying reassuringly expensive face paints is unlikely to turn you into a top model or Oscar winning actress. They only might.

The Advertising Standards Authority says the retouched images were exaggerated and breached its code of conduct.

L’Oreal admits that for the images it did “lighten the skin, clean up make-up, reduce dark shadows and shading around the eyes, smooth the lips and darken the eyebrows“.

But other than that, the stuff is absolutely great and they back it 100% to do the job. As such the firm’s “anti-ageing” foundation is still called anti-ageing foundation – because that is exactly what it is.

Can you believe what you see in the newspapers? Prince William’s campaign to try on every uniform Britain has to offer is a wow - next week it’s baker, then butcher, then cub scout, before a week as a traffic warden in Slough, then a few days as a Beefeater before ending the summer as a lap dancer. The Sun and Metro, one of London’s top half dozen free newspapers, follows the action as Wills tries his hand, legs and arms in a Navy get up. He calls it: “A charming piece of ethnic cleansing by The Sun.” But surely it is the Metro that has seen fit to include in the picture Wills’ valet wearing in the uniform of Brent Council’s Youth Liason Officer Corps.
