Game Of Russian Roulette With Argos Catalogue Ends In Pain And Jail

by | 11th, August 2011

TO Ayr Sheriff Court to see Paul Black, 39, of Girvan, Ayrshire, jailed for 28 months for contravening the Firearms Act. He shot John Harris, 18,  with an air rifle in a game of Russian roulette with an Argos catalogue.

Each took it in turns to have the famously thick Argos catalogue strapped to their torso while the other fired at it with an airgun.

After each round, an agreed amount of pages were removed from the catalogue. As it got thinner, the chances of injury increased.

Black’s solicitor Peter Lockhart:

“The catalogue became thinner and thinner. Inevitably it was going to end in disaster and that was the eventual outcome.”

The Daily Record adds:

When it was Black’s turn to shoot at Harris, who has learning difficulties, the pellet went through the depleted catalogue and into his stomach.

To the hospital, then, where they told medics that Harris had been hit by a ricochet. The lie was soon undone. And the pellet was removed by keyhole surgery.

Why did thy do it? Says Black: “Stupidness, watching too many Jackass movies.

Which begs the question: why didn’t they film it? There’s money in idiocy.
