Ian Tomlinson, Mark Duggan And Learning To Love The Brutal Police Again

REMEMBER when the hated police were being attacked for flogging stories to the News of The Word, being institutionally racist, stomping on freedom, killing the music and having spa treatments? That was – oh – about three weeks ago. Now the people are cheering for them to crack heads with extreme prejudice.

David Cameron, fresh from touring Croydon and standing in what must be safest street in the UK, tells Parliament:

To the law-abiding people who play by the rules and who are the overwhelming majority in this country, I say, “The fight back has begun. We will protect you. If you’ve had your livelihood and property damaged, we will compensate you. We are on your side.” To the lawless minority, the criminals who have taken what they can get, I say: we will track you down, we will find you, we will charge you, we will punish you. You will pay for what you have done.

We need to show the world, which has looked on, frankly, appalled, that the perpetrators of the violence we have seen on our streets are not in any way representative of our country, or of our young people. [You sure about that, Dave – allegedly?] We need to show them that we will address our broken society and restore a sense of stronger morality and responsibility in every town, in every street and in every estate. A year away from the Olympics, we need to show the world the Britain that does not destroy, but that builds; that does not give up, but stands up; that does not look back, but always looks forward. I commend this statement to the House.

Jeepers! He’s tough. But he will not put the Army on the streets. Hell no. Why? Well, for one thing, the Army is already overstretched fighting wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya with faltering confidence. For another, there is no need. We already have the Territorial Support Group – the new Specials. You remember them from the G20 protests. You will remember how they were praised for their tough stance on protecting the City. Whisper the name Ian Tomlinson (pictured above) to the coppers on riot duty. Then ask them why no plastic bullets have been fired.

The police do not shoot people by accident. the police aim to shoot you dead. Ask Mark Duggan. Remember him..?
