HOW’S life at Blackburn Rovers for Steve Keane, subject of the fans’ banners “STEVE KEANE OUT”?
Daily Mirror, November 9, 2011:
EXCLUSIVE: Steve Kean signs new, improved Blackburn deal
Steve Kean has signed a new contract at Blackburn Rovers.
lan Nixon follows up that news by telling Mirror readers on November 22, 2011:
Exclusive: Kean seals new Blackburn deal
Steve Kean has completed his new deal at Blackburn
Kean put pen to paper on a contract that will pay him around £25,000-a-week – and he also won his battle to have a clause removed that made him easier to sack.
Blackburn’s Indian owners agreed to the small print, despite wanting Kean to accept less of a pay-off. It will still cost around £800,000 to sack him.
Kean’s old deal, given to him when he stepped in for Sam Allardyce less than a year ago, was due to run out in 20 months. The new one runs for a further two seasons.
“Yes, there have been discussions about a new contract, but I have told the owners that this is an inappropriate time to conclude any new contract discussions. Instead, the real issue is for me and everyone else to concentrate on the games.
“The fact that the owners have talked to me about a new contract means that they can see what we are building here, and we hope to make others see it too.
“We need to turn the last remaining negatives into positives, and the vast majority of the fans can see that our performances deserve to be six or seven points better off and halfway up the table.”
