Daily Mail Spots A Muslim In McDonald’s On Christmas Day And Smells Church ‘Fury’
THIS Daily Mail story almost has the lot: angry Christians; a Muslim and fast food.
The headline tells readers much:
Church fury over opening of McDonald’s on Christmas Day as Muslim manager is drafted in
The Daily Mail Reporter writes:
Church leaders have hit out at a branch of McDonald’s which is to open on Christmas Day.
Burgers, nuggets and chips for Christmas lunch? It’s the end of Christianity as we know it:
Parish Rvd Wayne Stillwell said the decision to open the branch showed ‘the continuing decline of Christendom in this country’ and his reaction was ‘one of great sadness’.
Feel the fury. It’s echoed by the Dean of Derby, who doubtless puce with rage thunders:
“Families and friends should come together at Christmas, and if they want to do that in McDonald’s then who is the Church to object?”
Get a lod of that fury.
In the interests of balance to a headline that places a Muslim at the centre of a story about non-existent fury, we hear from a McDonald’s spokesman:
“We expect there to be about 60 stores in the UK that remain open this year.”
All run by Muslims? Or is the Mail just bothered about the one that is..?

The shop being open is presented as being no bad thing. The Dean of Derby, Dr John Davies, is quoted in full:
“Mary, Joseph and the babe were lucky to find an innkeeper who helped them find a place to stay. He provided hospitality for them. Families and friends should come together at Christmas, and if they want to do that in McDonald’s then who are the Church to object?”
Also, the Rev Stillwell had more to say:
Rev Stillwell, of St Mary’s Church, Chaddesden, said: ‘Some people, who provide essential services, have to work on Christmas Day – but I don’t feel that those employed by a fast-food restaurant should be in the same situation.’
As such, the Mail would like all other non-essential places of work to shut, such as pubs, supermarkets, petrol stations, newspaper offices, TV stations, hotels, airports and the godless Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley.
Also, churches will have to shut, being deemed non essential. If you need to pray, do so at home. If you don’t know how to, ask the manager at the Derby McDonald’s. His doors are always open.
Amen to that.
