Rose Devlin is ‘just a shoplifter who ran out of petrol’ in Oldham
ROSE Devlin ran out of petrol as she attempted to make off with loads of booze she’d stolen from Asda’s Chadderton store in Oldham. A man comes to her assistance. He pushes Devlin’s car to the petrol station, where she fills up and makes off. That was July 2011. The action is filmed on CCTV, later handed to police. She repeated the caper the following October, robbing Asda’s Hulme store in Manchester.
Rose Devlin, 59, from Ebsworth Street, Moston, is now appearing at Manchester Crown Court. There she describes herself as “just a shoplifter“. She adds in mitigation:
“I’ve done it all my life and I don’t regret it.”
Devlin is handed an eight month sentence, suspended for 22 months.
She adds:
“I wouldn’t say sorry to a judge, I’m not sorry – I’m just a shoplifter who ran out of petrol”.
If Morrissey is looking for new material, he could do worse than use that line.
