Darts: two world champions and one dad dance (doo-dah, doo-dah)

by | 18th, January 2012

THE darts is over for another year. No darts will feature at the London Olympics, thus depriving the global TV audience the sight of British sports fans behaving without the kind of restraints imposed on them at football matches, say, and archery.

Two rival World Championships have produced two winners: Christian ‘The Lipstick’ Krist saw off Ted ‘The Count’ Hankey to take the BDO cup; and Adrian ‘Jackpot’ Lewis went home with the PDC’s copper-coated Saturn on a plinth by way of defeating Andy ‘The Hammer’ Hamilton..

At Alexandra Palace, we saw Adrian Lewis stung by a wasp and his game with James “The Machine” Wade affected by the “crosswinds” promoter Barry Hearn blamed on “global warming”.

At the Lakeside World Championships, darts refused to prick a board that needed replacing, Kist and Tony “Silverback” O’Shea’s match was hit by “mist” and the aforementioned Hankey complained: “I really believe the air conditioning was switched on at the end of the semi-final to stop me winning the title.”

But the highlight was Ross Montgomery’s infectious dad dance walk on to LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem. Darts is our gain – and the Olympics great loss. Altogther now: “Two world champions and one dad dance, doo-dah-doo-dah…”
