In a big circus tent on Hollywood's La Cienega Boulevard, spectators, mostly servicemen and their girlfriends, sit on the edge of their chairs and marvel at the feats of magic. It's actor Orson Welles' Mercury Wonder Show and Welles himself is the chief performer. Orson's friend, actor Joseph Cotten, assisted by a bevy of beauties, goes through one of the acts on August 9, 1943. The girls are left to right: Mary Rowland, Mary Battle, Linda Brent, and Elenor Counts. (AP Photo)
