Former Sun editor slams paper for Woy Hodgson jibes
THE Sun is in crisis. The paper is the country’s best-seller – but is it as good as it was? Today’s front-page headline ignores Rupert Murdoch and instead just makes fun of Roy Hodgson’s speech. He is “WOY”. The Sun can be brilliant. But is this just cruel? Former Sun editor David Yelland tweets:
David Yelland
@davidyelland So little compassion for Roy Hodgson today, bullying language, pointlessly cruel, pointlessly hurtful.
They hate him because he isn’t that tabloid pet ‘Arry Redknapp.
But is it that bad? The Sun labours the obvious. Is the paper guilty of that cardinal sin in tabloid newspapers: not being funny?
PS – First person to spot the patriotic Sun yelling “Let’s get behind ’em an” let us know. When “Woy” becomes “Roy”, he’ll have won them over…
